Fall Color Expected to Peak in Mid-October in Springfield

Blessed with four distinct seasons, each season in southwest Missouri has unique attributes and charm.

Spring brings new greenery and a sense of renewal.
Summer is when flowers are blooming at their best.
In the fall, enchanting colors decorate the landscape.
Winter brings sparkling displays of snow and ice.

Fall is one of the most spectacular seasons of the year. And coming soon to Springfield is the season's magical gift of trees putting on a last hurrah of delightful color as Mother Nature prepares them for winter.

View this YouTube video for a sneak peak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FsS6ERlhkE.

The Missouri Department of Conservation's Fall Colors Web page reports the peak fall color season in Missouri is mid October: "This is when maples, ashes, oaks and hickories are at the height of their fall display."

Plan your fall trip to Springfield now so you can see the fantastic displays of red, yellow, gold, brown, purple and orange.

La Quinta Inn-South Certified Green

The La Quinta Inn - South in Springfield, Mo., has earned the designation of a Certified Green Hotel from The Missouri Hotel and Lodging Association.

This designation was earned by the hotel for its efforts in multiple areas of corporate responsibility through reducing the hotel's footprint on the environment and conservation of natural resources.

MH&LA’s Certified Green Program criteria was created with input from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The program consists of a Self-Certification Workbook, with conditions of the program agreed to by the hotel’s management and random independent inspections by a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified inspector with the U.S. Green Building Council of at least 10 percent of all hotels involved.

The program focuses on the hotel reducing its footprint on the environment by using environmentally green cleaning chemicals approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or Greenseal and using at least 30% recycled paper in its office functions. The hotel also must participate in recycling efforts that reduce the amount of waste generated, minimizing the amount of
non-recyclable waste that ends up in landfills.

The other focus of the program is the La Quinta’s conservation of natural resources. Water conservation is practiced by using water-conserving fixtures in all guest showers, toilets and faucets. Energy-conservation efforts range from an energy-efficiency management system on air conditioners to low-wattage lighting fixtures and bulbs and simple recycling programs throughout the hotel.
