For the seventh year in a row, Hammons Field in downtown Springfield will be transformed into a unique place of worship for all denominations on Easter Sunday. On Sunday, April 8, the gates at Hammons Field will open at 6:00 a.m. with the Greater Springfield Sunrise Celebration beginning at 6:30 a.m. - - Volunteers from multiple area churches and the staff at Hammons Field have joined together to offer this community-wide interdenominational event that includes music, testimonials, prayer, and worship. This year's featured speaker will be Major Norman Grainger from Springfield, Missouri Corps of the Salvation Army. - - The Greater Springfield Easter Sunrise Celebration is open to anyone that wants to celebrate Easter in a beautiful outdoor setting at sunrise. In case of rain, the service will be held indoors at the Springfield Cardinals training facility at Hammons Field.

From 3 to 9 pm, patrons will be able to ice skate and play on inflatables from Amberg Entertainment in the Mediacom Ice Park, create art and crafts at The Creamery Arts Center, and enjoy the hands-on activities of the Discovery Center. The Springfield Cardinals will host the Midland Rockhounds at 5:08 pm at Hammons Field and then “Members Only” will be the featured headliner band after the game. The region’s largest fireworks show will begin at Hammons Field at 9:45 pm.
